Resistance, Feminism, & Fandom - Friday, April 26 at 6:30pm
Panelists: Marina Sirtis (Star Trek: The Next Generation), Jay Justice, Angelique Roche, Jonathan Alexandratos
A discussion of acts of resistance and being vocal about politics in the age of Trump/current political climate. Social media is great because it gives everyone a voice, but social media is also awful because it gives everyone a voice (like Nazis). We are here to discuss our experiences and opinions as liberal individuals on social media who are active in various fandoms (Star Trek, Marvel, X-Files, more) but as a feminists who aren't afraid to voice our opinions.
Warp Speed Ahead with Star Trek: Discovery - Sunday, April 28 at 1:30pm
Panelists: Sue Kisenwether (Women at Warp), Ashley Philogene, Jonathan Alexandratos, Jay Stobie
In a follow-up to last year’s panel on Star Trek: Discovery, we’ll dig deeper into what season two brings for our newest crew, the role it plays in the bigger Trek timeline, and how it continues to grapple with the social issues Star Trek is known for tackling.
Not Your Manic Pixie Dream Girl - Sunday, April 28 at 2:30pm
Writers of the sci-fi/fantasy media that we consume have mostly grown beyond the normal tropes that female/LGBT characters fell into for so long, but new tropes have arisen in their place. This panel examines what media – TV, film – is succeeding in growing beyond both old and new tropes, and what still needs to find its footing with informed audiences.
X-Fest 2
Chicago, IL
June 7 - June 9
Panels TBD, likely to be scheduled for Sunday, June 9 on SCULLY! You are shocked, I know. Other women of The X-Files will be discussed.
Shore Leave
Hunt Valley, MD
July 12 - 14
I am once again attending the fabulous Shore Leave, the longest running fan con in the US! I will once again be on loads of panels (last year I did 9…overachiever, I know) talking about Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, Star Wars, fandom culture, social media, comics, and more! Our Umbrella Academy panel didn’t make the final programming cut so I am definitely going to find other places to talk about that killer soundtrack and the great characters of my newest obsession.
Star Trek: Las Vegas
Rio Hotel, July 31 - August 5
I am hosting a bunch of panels on the main stage this year! Not just one or two - a bunch! (A day of programming? Half a day? No one knows yet.) Goals: (1) Unite the ladies of Trek across the casts for the first time ever at STLV. (2) Chat with Kate Mulgrew about her upcoming book & why you should all read it. (3) Try not to drool on Anson Mount in the green room.
2018 Convention Panels
Spooky Empire, October 2018: The Scully Effect
Join myself and my fab panel of badass ladies as we discuss how The X-Files' Special Agent Dana Scully influenced a generation of career women to be confident in themselves and their feminism. We'll examine how Scully has evolved as a pop culture icon, her unique contribution to the TV landscape, and how actress Gillian Anderson embodies Scully's fierce determination throughout 25 years of playing her.
